Our recommended phone systems for businesses

We recommend two different types of cost-effective business phone system:

  • Cisco phone systems have a range of features and are available in packages to suit most small and medium-sized businesses.
  • 3CX phone systems are software-based, and run on a Windows server.

Both systems benefit different businesses in different ways. An overview of each system is shown below.

Cisco phone systems

Cisco’s phone systems are designed to meet the needs of a range of businesses – from small companies with just a few employees, to larger organisations on multiple sites with up to 138 phones.

As Cisco phone systems use your internet connection to make and receive calls, any ISDN lines can be terminated, saving your business £429 each year for every cancelled line.

3CX phone systems

3CX is a software-based phone system with many advantages over hardware-based systems.

As a Windows server application, 3CX is simple to manage and control. Being software-based it can integrate with your current business or CRM systems – and a number of CRM add-ons are available, including Sage ACT!, SalesForce, SugarCRM and Microsoft Dynamics.

3CX is inexpensive to purchase and expand. You can use it with SIP phones from a variety of manufacturers, including Cisco, Yealink, Snom and Polycom, so you’ll never be tied in to one particular brand.

The software comes with unlimited extensions, and is licensed based on the number of simultaneous calls you want to be able to make, and can be upgraded as your business grows.

A low-cost entry-level version is available for businesses that need the ability to make up to four simultaneous calls, and there’s even a FREE version for companies requiring no more than two simultaneous calls.

Features include voicemail, auto attendant and call queues – all of which cost extra with most proprietary PBX solutions.
